Quality Talk in Language Arts
Over multiple studies, Quality Talk has been shown to support students’ learning in elementary language arts.
The QT approach was first implemented in elementary language arts classrooms. Teachers typically enact QT over the course of a school year with students receiving weekly lessons about how to ask productive questions and how to use argumentation to support their ideas both during discussion and in writing. Text-based discussions occur approximately once per week.
In multiple studies, students have demonstrated gains in both basic and high-level comprehension as well as reading fluency and oral and written argumentation.
